As the Executive Director for the South Lake Business Association, I am very excited to share with everyone that the highly anticipated South Lake Avenue StreetScape Improvement project will begin this summer.  The first phase of this 2.6 million dollar project will focus on the South Lake street medians which will receive a more contemporary look with a brand new landscape design.  In addition, new high-tech irrigation and electrical systems will be installed which will allow South Lake to conserve water and power.  A lot of hard work has gone into and continues to go into this project headed by the South Lake Business Association in partnership with the City of Pasadena.  We are all very excited and await South Lake's new look!

Our newsletter continues to be a huge success in providing accurate information to property owners and businesses within the South Lake Avenue Business District, the City of Pasadena and residential communities.  We are currently accepting submissions for the August 2008 newsletter so if you are a South Lake Avenue business or property owner and would like to participate in the newsletter, please e-mail your submission to us by July 20th.

Enjoy!

Looking for Summer Help?
Pasadena Businesses and City Partner to Offer Youth Jobs for Summer 2008

The City of Pasadena is extending the successful Summer ROSE (Realizing Opportunities in Summer Employment) Youth Jobs Program to the private business sector.  Previously available only to public and non-profit organizations, the City now offers a financial incentive for local private sector businesses to employ eligible youth workers in summer 2008.  This is a great opportunity for a local business to hire Pasadena youth and have a portion of the salary subsidized.  For more information: 626-744-7334
Smoking in the City
City of Pasadena Proposed No-Smoking Policies

At the request of the City of Pasadena Public Safety Committee, the Public Health Department staff was asked to research outdoor tobacco smoking and provide a report on recommendations to amend the current City municipal code's tobacco control ordinance. Parking Meters on South Lake

Parking meters are headed to South Lake this summer and are scheduled to be installed along the Avenue in July.  The high-tech multi-space meters will incorporate customer-friendly features such as on-screen instructions and acceptance of credit cards for payment.  The South Lake Avenue Business District will benefit in a variety of ways.  Most importantly, the revenue generated will be invested into the District and the increased parking turnover will keep spaces available to customers.  A successful example can be seen through the Old Pasadena Management District.
